<image:caption>Oil on Panel 18cm x 23cm The play of light and shade invites contradictions between what we see or think we see, the real or the imaginary. The first series of work responds to the diagrammatical studies of the Dictionnaire Raisonne de l’Architecture Francais by Viollet-le-Duc, Eugene- Emmanuel, 1814-1879. It examines the interaction between hard, constructed surfaces and the way that light is absorbed and reflected, how it delineates and penetrates these facades. The second series of studies further explores light and shadow. It reveals ambiguities and paradoxes in our perception when we observe a shape, a mirror, or a space trapped within a pale or conversely, a dark framework.</image:caption>

The house invites contradictions between the apparent and the concealed. It is the light as it enters the building, the surface on which it falls and what we subsequently see, or think we see, that I am exploring in my work.</image:caption>
